Area Committee Economic Development, Regeneration, Tourism and Transport Project Development Fund Close – 6 June 2025

 

Report of the Corporate Director of Community Development

 

1.0       PURPOSE OF REPORT

 

1.1       To provide final reports from the Project Development Fund and close the work package

 

 

2.0       BACKGROUND

 

2.1       At the meeting of North Yorkshire County Council on 22 February 2023 (Council Minute 83p), in respect of the 2023/24 Revenue Budget for North Yorkshire Council, it was resolved that, “£50k be provided annually for each Area Constituency Committee to commission works they feel appropriate for their local area”.

 

2.2       Six projects were endorsed by the committee and have now been delivered within the Scarborough and Whitby committee area.

 

3.0       Updates

 

3.1       Coastal Access at Cayton Bay – Project now complete. Steps are available for use to the general public.

 

3.2       Offshore Economic Opportunities – Project now completed. The report was publicly circulated as part of this committee’s papers and will be presented on the Maritime day of Yorkshire Business week on 19 June.

 

3.3       Active Travel Social Prescribing Pilot Project – Training now available to all staff, and directly rolled out to the team involved in social prescribing.

 

3.4       Scarborough 400 – The committee funded aspect of the project is now complete. It is actively feeding into the wider Scarborough 400 programme for 2026 and will ensure a legacy for the project.

 

3.5       Sea bird nesting – Project now completed. The report was publicly circulated as part of this committee’s papers and has been handed over to the Council’s Gull Strategy team to take forward for funding and delivery.

 

3.6       Sea Swimming – Project now completed. The report was publicly circulated as part of this committee’s papers and has been handed over to the emerging ‘Scarborough Sea Swimming CIC’ to work through the next stages of development.
